Johnny Isakson's Position Statement on Transportation

I am committed to ensuring that Georgia’s transportation system is enhanced and well maintained. As a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I will work hard to secure more equitable funding for Georgia’s roads and highways. I will also work to provide viable mass transit alternatives for commuters, taking cars off our roads and improving air quality.

After September 11th, I voted to make America's system of airline security stronger, more aggressive and more reliable. The aviation security bill that was later signed into law by President Bush created a uniform, consistent, comprehensive security system at our nation's airports. It also provided for federal marshals on commercial flights, increased security in our nation’s airports and airplanes and comprehensive screening of baggage on all commercial flights. In addition, the Department of Transportation now has the ability to authorize guns for use by airline pilots if properly trained.
