Isakson Commends Master Sergeant Julius D. Spain Sr. for Being Selected for Promotion to Master Gunnery Sergeant
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today praised Master Sergeant Julius D. Spain Sr. for recently being selected for promotion to Master Gunnery Sergeant, which is the highest enlisted rank in the U.S. Marine Corps. Master Gunnery Sergeants and Sergeant Majors are the most senior staff non-commissioned officers in the U.S. Marine Corps.
"I commend Master Sergeant Spain for being selected for this promotion, and thank him for his long record to service to our country in the United States Marine Corps," said Isakson. "Master Sergeant Spain has been an invaluable resource to me during this year in my office, and I am delighted to see him receive this much-deserved recognition."
Master Sergeant Spain is currently serving as a Defense Legislative Fellow in Isakson's Washington, D.C. office. Spain is a 1990 graduate of Conway High School in Conway, S.C. and the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Spain and Ester Mae Spain of the Bucksville Community. Spain is married to Mrs. Adriana Spain and they have three children, Monique, Julius Jr, and Leana. The family currently resides in the Penrose Community of Arlington, Virginia.
In March 2010, Master Sergeant Spain was competitively selected to participate in the Department of Defense's Congressional Fellowship program representing the U.S. Marine Corps. He began work in Isakson's office in January 2011. Upon completion of his fellowship in January 2012, he will be reassigned to the Marine Corps' Office of Legislative Affairs at the Pentagon.
