Isakson Vows to Cut Spending, Reduce Debt As He Takes Oath in U.S. Senate
Swearing-in Marks Beginning of Isakson’s Second Six-Year Term

WASHINGTON – With his wife, three grown children and nine grandchildren watching, U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., was sworn in to the United States Senate today.  Isakson vowed to make cutting spending and reducing debt his top priority as the national public debt surpassed an unprecedented $14 trillion this week.

Isakson, 66, took the oath along with 33 other senators who were elected in November, marking the beginning of his second six-year term in the Senate and the opening of the 112 th Congress.

“It is an honor to serve the people of Georgia in the United States Senate,” said Isakson.  “The 112 th Congress faces the challenge of cutting spending and reducing debt, and I am committed to making the tough decisions to ensure a bright future for our children and grandchildren.   We must demand from our government what every American has had to ask of themselves: prioritize our spending, reduce our debt, and live within our means.”

Isakson was re-elected on November 2, 2010, with 58 percent of the vote.
