Isakson, Chambliss, Kingston Announce Location for Brunswick VA Clinic
Senators, Congressman Have Pushed VA for Over a Year to Resolve Lease Issues, Open Clinic

WASHINGTON–U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and U.S. Representative Jack Kingston, R-Ga., today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs will locate its new community-based outpatient clinic at the Summit Professional Plaza on Glynco Parkway in Brunswick, Ga.

“Community-based outpatient clinics are an integral and critical part of the VA system, and veterans in the Brunswick area have waited far too long for access to the care and services these clinics provide,” said Isakson, a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. “ I will continue to work with the VA to ensure that this facility becomes a reality this year.”

“I’m pleased the VA is moving forward on this long-awaited community-based outpatient clinic,” said Chambliss. “This is good news for our veterans in the area who have served our nation with honor. They deserve access to the medical care they need.”

“The Brunswick area has patiently waited for the opening of this much-needed facility,” said Congressman Kingston. “This clinic will provide another option to veterans who drive long distances to receive critical care and I will continue to work toward seeing the doors to this clinic open.”

Isakson, Chambliss and Kingston have been fighting for over a year to get an answer from the VA on its commitment to bring a community-based outpatient clinic to Brunswick. Contracting issues delayed the delivery of timely and quality healthcare to veterans in the Brunswick area, according to the VA. An opening date for the clinic has not been established.

In August 2009, Isakson chaired a Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee field hearing in Jesup, Ga., to examine the services provided by community-based outpatient clinics, the role the clinics play in providing care for rural veterans and issues related to future clinics, including the one planned for Brunswick.
