Isakson, Chambliss Praise Reopening of Pilgrim’s Pride Douglas Plant

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today praised the announcement that Pilgrim’s Pride would reopen its chicken processing plant in Douglas, Ga., by January 2011.

“This is fantastic news for Douglas and Coffee County,” Senator Isakson said.  “The poultry industry has been an integral part of this community for many years and the return of Pilgrim’s Pride will help the region’s economic recovery.”

“The community has worked hard to ensure that the Douglas plant would reopen,” said Chambliss. “I’m pleased hundreds of employees and contractors will be able to get back to work. Pilgrim’s Pride is a major employer in this area and supports thousands of jobs in the state, so this is great news.”
