Chambliss, Isakson, Broun Applaud Senate Passage of Measure Honoring Fort Gordon

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Congressman Paul Broun, R-10, today applauded passage of a measure commending the soldiers and civilian personnel, and their families, stationed at Fort Gordon for their service and dedication to the United States. The measure recognizes the servicemen and women for their contributions to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and Fort Gordon’s pivotal role as a communications training installation. The measure passed the Senate unanimously late Tuesday night.

“The military men and women at Fort Gordon play an integral role in our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Chambliss, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence committees. “I’m pleased my colleagues in the Senate have joined us in honoring the soldiers, civilian personnel at Fort Gordon, and the entire Augusta community for their contributions to keeping the United States safe and secure.”

“Fort Gordon plays a key role in the security of our nation, and I am very pleased to see Congress honor the service and sacrifice of these soldiers and their families as well as the tremendous support provided by the local community,” Isakson said.

Congressman Broun introduced the measure in the House, which passed last week.

“Fort Gordon has been an indispensable communications installation and training center in our nation’s history,” said Broun.  “I thank my colleagues in both the House and Senate for unanimously passing my joint resolution commending the soldiers, civilians, and military families stationed at Fort Gordon for their service and dedication to the United States of America.”

Congressmen John Barrow, D-12, Sanford Bishop, D-2, Nathan Deal, R-9, Phil Gingrey, R-11, Hank Johnson, D-4, Jack Kingston, R-1, John Lewis, D-5, John Linder, R-7, Jim Marshall, D-8, Tom Price, R-6, David Scott, D-13, and Lynn Westmoreland, R-3, co-sponsored the resolution in the House.
