Chambliss, Isakson Announce Law Enforcement Grant for Savannah Technical College

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today announced that Savannah Technical College will receive a $145,749 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to aid in local anti-gang strategies.

Savannah Technical College is the lead fiscal agent for the Anti-Gang Initiative and will allocate funding to areas in Savannah, Augusta and Brunswick. The Anti-Gang Initiative provides support for anti-gang enforcement and prevention efforts under the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.

Savannah , Augusta, and Brunswick will utilize the funds for after-school prevention programs, training for law enforcement officials and an anti-gang media campaign.

“It is important that our local governments receive this funding and continue the fight against crime to keep our citizens in both rural and urban communities safe,” said Chambliss.  “This particular grant will enable the folks in Savannah, Augusta and Brunswick to better equip their law enforcement officers for the training and programs necessary to combat gang activity.”

“It is important to provide programs that offer Georgia’s youth with opportunities that help them resist gang involvement,” Isakson said. “I’m pleased the communities of Savannah, Augusta and Brunswick will be able to benefit from this funding.”
