Isakson Announces CARE Grant
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) today announced that Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) of Atlanta will receive a $523,030 grant that will be used to lessen the hardship of drought-affected populations in communal areas of Zimbabwe through the rehabilitation of rural water points.
The grant will be distributed through the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance, a division of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The mission of CARE is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from global diversity, resources and experience, CARE promotes innovative solutions and are advocates for global responsibility.
“I am pleased to announce this grant for CARE, which is headquartered in Atlanta,” said Isakson. “CARE’s international work has helped lessen hardship in communities across the globe by building a foundation for self-sufficiency and lasting solutions to problems caused by poverty.”
USAID is the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. OFDA is the office within USAID responsible for providing non-food humanitarian assistance in response to international crises and disasters.
