Isakson Praises Ft. Stewart and Hunter AAF
on Receiving Defense Department’s Prestigious Commander in Chief’s Award
Only Five Honored Nationwide

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) today announced that Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have been awarded jointly the prestigious 2005 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence from the Department of Defense.

“I am very proud of the accomplishments of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield,” Isakson said. “At a time when our nation is fighting the war on terror and when the Defense Department is looking at closing bases, this is a great honor and a great testament to the critical role these bases have in our nation’s defense.”

The Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.  The five recipients of this highly competitive Presidential award were selected for their exemplary support of Department of Defense missions.

Excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the quality of life for military men and women and their families.  Each winning installation succeeded in providing excellent working, housing and recreational conditions for the people assigned to that installation.

The 2005 Commander in Chief’s Award ceremony was held August 17 at the Pentagon.
