Isakson, Chambliss Announce Funding For Tybee Island Conservation

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) today announced that the City of Tybee Island will receive a $104,000 grant to purchase over 25 acres at Goat Head and Battery Halleck.

The funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will be used to purchase 13 acres in the City of Tybee and 12 acres in the City of Savannah.

“I am pleased to announce this grant for Tybee Island,” said Isakson. “Preserving and protecting our state’s natural surroundings for future generations makes sense environmentally and economically.”

“I am pleased to announce these important funds that will go so far to promote preservation in Georgia’s coastal regions,” said Chambliss.  “I am honored to assist the City of Tybee Island in their efforts to make our communities better places to live.”

Land and Water Conservation Fund state-side grants help state and local governments acquire, develop, improve and maintain high quality outdoor recreation areas and open space, assuring that the recreation opportunities provided will be available for all Americans to enjoy in perpetuity.
