FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Isakson, Chambliss Funding Grant for Tubman Museum WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) today announced that Macon’s Tubman African-American Museum will receive a $120,280 grant for additional construction at the Macon historical attraction. The grant will be distributed through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. “I am pleased to announce this grant for the Tubman African-American Museum,” said Isakson. “This cultural center is a centerpiece of its community and fosters understanding through education to over 65,000 guests a year.” “This grant will help the Tubman Museum, as a cultural center in Middle Georgia, honor the achievements and tribulations of the African American experience in the United States,” said Chambliss. “It is important for us to preserve African American history because it is through knowledge that our understanding becomes stronger.” The Tubman Museum is Georgia’s largest African-American museum. Its mission is to preserve African-American culture, history and art. It features both static and changing exhibitions of art by, for, and about African Americans. Housing and community revitalization are at the heart of HUD’s mission. This grant is part of the Department’s plan to meet local needs and expand opportunities for citizens of Georgia and the nation. ###
